New Delhi, October 3 (HS): Global markets are trading with a positive undertone today, following firm cues from Wall Street. Major U.S. indices closed higher in the previous session, while Dow Jones Futures are currently trading with notable gains.European markets ended mixed on Thursday, whereas most Asian indices are showing strength this morning.Despite concerns over a U.S. government shutdown, American equities held steady in the last session. The S&P 500 inched up 0.06 percent to close at 6,715.35 points, while the Nasdaq advanced 0.39 percent to 22,844.05 points. Dow Jones Futures are trading 116.25 points higher, up 0.25 percent, at 46,634.98.
In Europe, markets recorded a firm session, though late selling pressure pulled down the FTSE, which slipped 0.20 percent to 9,427.73 points. On the contrary, France’s CAC rallied 1.11 percent to 8,056.63, while Germany’s DAX jumped 308.94 points, or 1.26 percent, to settle at 24,422.56.
Across Asia, six out of nine major indices are trading in the green, reflecting a broader positive tone. South Korea’s KOSPI remained shut on account of a market holiday. Gift Nifty, however, slipped 0.25 percent to 24,887.50, and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng lost 230.12 points, or 0.85 percent, to 27,057.
On the other hand, Singapore’s Straits Times rose 0.25 percent to 4,406.09, and Thailand’s SET Composite firmed 0.32 percent to 1,292.38. Japan’s Nikkei surged sharply by 735.27 points, or 1.64 percent, to 45,672. Taiwan’s Weighted Index also added 272.87 points, or 1.03 percent, reaching 26,651.26.
Meanwhile, China’s Shanghai Composite edged up 0.52 percent to 3,882.78, and Indonesia’s Jakarta Composite advanced 0.18 percent to 8,085.67.
