Nagon (Assam), 29 October (HS): A carcass of a one-horned rhino was recovered on Wednesday morning at the Kamakhya Reserved Forest area in Silghat under Kaliabor, after it reportedly strayed out of Kaziranga National Park in search of food.
Local residents spotted the carcass near the Kaliabor Tea Estate and informed forest officials. A forest team from Silghat immediately reached the spot and initiated an investigation.
Preliminary findings suggest that the rhino might have killed after falling from a height, possibly while being chased by a tiger. Forest officials, however, said that the exact cause of death will be confirmed only after a post-mortem examination by veterinarians.
According to forest sources, the rhino had been roaming around the Silghat area for the past three months after moving out of Kaziranga National Park.--------
