Chennai, 29 October (H.S.) : Police have successfully apprehended five individuals in connection with a daring ₹4.5 crore armed robbery that occurred approximately two months ago on the busy Chennai–Bengaluru National Highway.

The arrests were made by the Kancheepuram police following intensive investigation into the major cash heist, bringing the first wave of suspects to justice in a case that had raised serious concerns about road safety in the region. The successful operation highlights the commitment of law enforcement to pursue criminals across state lines to ensure public security.

The high-stakes crime involved a large contingent of offenders. According to preliminary police reports, a massive 17-member gang had executed the robbery, demonstrating a high degree of coordination.

The criminals intercepted a car carrying the massive amount of cash on the national highway and used knifepoint threats to coerce the occupants before making away with the funds.

The brazen nature and scale of the operation had marked it as one of the most significant highway robberies in the recent past.

Providing an update on the case, police officials confirmed that the five suspects were traced and subsequently arrested while they were reportedly hiding in Kerala. Authorities have since transported them back to Tamil Nadu for judicial procedures.

The Kancheepuram police department stated that further investigations are actively underway to identify and arrest the remaining twelve members of the armed gang involved in the multi-crore robbery and to recover the stolen cash.
