Hyderabad, Oct 29 (HS):
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Wednesday reviewed the situation arising from Cyclone Montha, which has brought heavy rains and flooding across multiple districts of the state. He directed officials to remain on high alert and ensure all precautionary and relief measures are in place, particularly at paddy and cotton procurement centers.
The Chief Minister instructed disaster response teams to coordinate with district collectors in the worst-hit areas and relocate residents from low-lying regions to relief camps. He also emphasized close monitoring of the situation through continuous communication with district and departmental officers.
According to weather expert T. Balaji, northern and central Telangana remain at high risk until midnight, while steady showers are expected in Hyderabad for the next few hours.
Districts such as Warangal, Jangaon, Siddipet, Hanmakonda, Sircilla, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, and Mancherial are experiencing extremely heavy rainfall, with several localities reporting waterlogging. Flooded areas include Battala Bazaar, Warangal Chowrasta, Shivanagar Sector, Rasi Kunta, NTR Nagar, and the underbridge region.
The Irrigation Department has been instructed to closely monitor water levels in all major projects, reservoirs, and tanks, and to alert district collectors before releasing excess water. Police and revenue officials have been ordered to barricade flooded bridges and divert traffic from low-lying causeways.
Municipal and village sanitation teams have been asked to carry out round-the-clock cleaning operations, while medical camps are being set up to ensure the availability of essential medicines and to prevent loss of life, property, and livestock.
Meanwhile, rail services across Telangana have been severely disrupted due to waterlogging, particularly at Dornakal railway station. Several trains have been cancelled, diverted, or rescheduled.
The Golconda Express, bound for Hyderabad, was halted at Dornakal Junction as tracks were submerged, while the Krishna Express, bound for Tirupati, was stopped at Mahabubabad due to track flooding.
Authorities continue to monitor the evolving situation as Cyclone Montha’s impact persists across the region, with rescue and relief operations underway in the most affected districts.
