
Chennai, 29 October (H.S.) : A total of 128 students from a private college in Kumarapalayam, Namakkal district, were affected by food allergies after consuming what is suspected to be contaminated food and water. The mass food-related illness prompted immediate action from health authorities.
Following the serious incident, the health certificate of the college has been cancelled. Dr. Poonkodi, the Joint Director of Health for Namakkal District, confirmed that a notice has been formally sent to the college management seeking an explanation regarding the incident.
All the affected students have been discharged and have returned home after receiving necessary treatment. In the wake of the incident, alternative food arrangements have been put in place for the remaining 401 students residing in the college hostel, ensuring their safety and well-being while the matter is investigated.
The swift action by the health department underscores the severity of the contamination and the immediate steps taken to prevent further health risks on campus.
