Lucknow, 28
Oct (HS): BSP President Mayawati will attend a special state-level gathering of
the party's 'Muslim Samaj Bhaichara Sangathan' here on Wednesday as part of
attempts to increase the party's outreach to the community. According to a
statement published Tuesday by the Bahujan Samaj Party's (BSP) Uttar Pradesh
office, the meeting will take place on October 29 at 11 a.m. at the party's
state headquarters at 12 Mall Avenue. It
will be a mandal-level (divisional) gathering devoted to organizational growth
and community participation.
Mayawati, who
has spent four times as chief minister of Uttar Pradesh and has been a Member
of Parliament in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, will be the event's
principal guest and will address the audience, according to the party.
According to
the announcement, the BSP president would also discuss the Election Commission
of India's latest directions on SIR (special intense revision of electoral
registers). Party officials, coordinators, and representatives from several
divisions are scheduled to attend the conference, which is being billed as part
of the BSP's increased attempts to strengthen its social coalition ahead of the
next elections. Earlier this month, the BSP organized a spectacular public
event in Lucknow to commemorate the death anniversary of party founder Dalit
legend Kanshi Ram, when lakhs of people from Uttar Pradesh and beyond attended
to hear Mayawati speak.
