Chennai, 28 October (H.S.) : The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has issued a weather advisory, confirming that the severe cyclonic storm 'Montha', though expected to make landfall in Andhra Pradesh, will continue to influence rainfall across several districts in Tamil Nadu.

Specifically, the RMC forecasts that heavy to very heavy rain is likely at isolated places across the Tiruvallur district. Heavy rainfall is also expected at isolated locations in the Ghat areas of the Tirunelveli district, along with Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Ranipet, Theni, Tenkasi, and Kanyakumari districts today. Prior to this advisory, Chennai had already experienced significant downpour, with Ennore recording 12.5 cm of rain in the 24 hours ending at 8:30 am, according to the Tamil Nadu Disaster Risk Reduction Agency.

Regarding the cyclone's trajectory, 'Montha' has intensified into a severe cyclonic storm and was last centered approximately 190 km south-southeast of Machilipatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The storm is projected to cross the Andhra Pradesh coast between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam, near Kakinada, during the evening or night of today, October 28.

Authorities have warned that squally weather and strong winds will create rough sea conditions along the Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Odisha coasts over the next two days, and have strongly advised fishermen not to venture into the sea during this critical period.
