Sambhal, 28
Oct (HS): A court here deferred its decision on Tuesday in a lawsuit brought
against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his alleged anti-Indian state
statements earlier this year. According to sources, the verdict has been set
for November 7 by Additional District Judge (ADJ) II Aarti Fauzdar of the
Chandausi district court. Simran Gupta, national president of the Hindu Shakti
Dal, launched the action, alleging that Gandhi's remarks had been upsetting
public sentiment.
According to Gupta, Rahul Gandhi stated on
January 15 at the inauguration of the Delhi Congress office that our struggle
is not with the BJP or RSS, but with the Indian state. People around the country were hurt by his
remark.
Gupta stated
that he first filed complaints with many officials, including the Sambhal
District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police, but nothing was done. On January 23, he filed a complaint at the
Chandausi court. Hearings taken place on May 7, June 16, July 18, August 25,
and September 26, and arguments were concluded on Tuesday. Senior counsel Sagir
Saifi, who is defending Gandhi, stated: I delivered the defense today, saying
that the revision petition is not maintainable. The court heard both parties
and set November 7 as the ruling date.
