Nagpur, 28 Oct (HS): Two minor girls and a one-year-old boy were rescued by the District Child Protection Cell alleging their parents of cruelty against them under the influence of liquor. The call by the children in distress was received on Childline 1098, helpline for children in distress.
Acting swiftly the Child Protection Team, accompanied by Kamptee
Police, reached their residence around 2 am on Monday, and found the
children living in highly unsafe and neglected conditions. The minors were
immediately taken into custody and shifted to a secure shelter home.
A Child Protection Officer said the children were in an extremely vulnerable
state and revealed that this was not the first complaint against the family.
“Earlier, the parents had been counseled and warned. However, since they
continued to ill-treat the children, legal action has now been initiated,” the
officer added.
The official
also urged citizens to use Childline 1098 to report such incidents, emphasizing
that it is a free, 24-hour helpline for children in distress, and the caller’s
identity remains confidential. “Timely reporting can save lives and safeguard
the future of innocent children,” the officer added. A case has been registered against the parents under the Juvenile Justice Act 2015. The rescued minors have been placed under the care of the government-run Children's Home. In investigation into the case has been initiated.
