
Dhubri, 28 October (HS): A cheque distribution ceremony under the Chief Minister’s Mahila Udyamita Scheme was held on Tuesday at the Pratap Chandra Baruah Playground in Gauripur, Dhubri district. A total of 8,553 women from Self-Help Groups (SHGs) under the Bilasipara East Assembly Constituency received cheques of ₹10,000 each.
Assam’s Minister for Panchayat & Rural Development, Tourism, General Administration, Law and Guardian Minister of Dhubri district, Ranjeet Kumar Das, said the ambitious scheme, launched under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, aims to empower women across every assembly constituency of Assam. He noted that the initiative seeks to make women financially self-reliant, with 30 lakh beneficiaries being selected out of 40 lakh SHG members across the state
start or expand small-scale businesses.
Highlighting the scheme’s vision, Dass said, “The primary objective of the Mahila Udyamita Scheme is women empowerment—when every woman becomes self-reliant, society progresses and the nation moves toward growth, truly reflecting the spirit of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas’.”
Bilasipara East MLA Samsul Huda expressed happiness seeing the enthusiasm among the beneficiaries and encouraged them to use the financial assistance productively in ventures like tailoring, poultry, handloom, handicrafts and small shops, which would contribute to women-led entrepreneurship and promote livelihood opportunities even in urban areas.
Dhubri Deputy Commissioner Dibakar Nath stated that under the visionary leadership of the Chief Minister, around 30 lakh women beneficiaries have already been covered under this transformative initiative. He said the scheme not only empowers SHG members as entrepreneurs but also aims to help them evolve into ‘Lakhpati Baideus’ (women earning over ₹1 lakh annually).
At today’s event, 10 women were symbolically handed cheques on behalf of all 8,553 SHG members.
The programme was graced by Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass as chief guest, along with MLA Samsul Huda, Dhubri-Gauripur District Development Authority Chairman Deepak Kumar Saha, Dhubri Municipal Board Chairman Debomoy Sanyal, Kamatapur Autonomous Council Chief Executive Member Jibesh Roy, Dhubri DC Dibakar Nath, social workers Ranjit Roy, Biswajit Roy, Ranjit Kumar Saha and Biswajit Kalita, among others. Several administrative officials, ward commissioners, and hundreds of SHG members were also present.------
