Oct (HS): Police said three members of a family on their way to Chhat puja died
early Tuesday when a speeding truck plowed over them on National Highway-19
here. According to an official statement, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took
note of the occurrence and asked officials to offer urgent support and relief
to the grieving families. The event occurred in Panchfediya village, while the
victims were on their way to a local ghat for rites.
The victims,
52-year-old Kumari Devi, her daughter-in-law Chandni (27), and her
seven-year-old grandson Saurav, were heading towards the river about 5 a.m.
when the disaster occurred, according to Alinagar Station House Officer (SHO)
Anil Kumar Pandey. According to Pandey, all three perished on the scene as a
result of serious injuries.
The truck
driver allegedly lost control after the accident and slammed into a wayside shrine
before escaping with the vehicle, he said. The victims have been submitted for
autopsy, and police are looking for the absconding driver.
