Kannauj, 28

Oct (HS): In Kannauj district, Uttar Pradesh, a man accused of love jihad was

arrested by Talgram police after an encounter. The accused sustained a gunshot

wound to his leg and has been hospitalized for treatment. Superintendent of

Police Vinod Kumar told reporters on Tuesday that Imran (25), son of Jabir

Khan, a resident of Tahpur village, Talgram police station, had lured and

abducted a 12th-grade student from the village two weeks ago. Three days

earlier, on October 25, the student managed to escape from the accused's

clutches and reached home and narrated the entire incident to her mother.

Subsequently, the student's mother filed a complaint against Imran at the

police station. In her statement, the victim stated that the accused pressured

her to convert to Islam and marry him. When she refused, he threatened to post

her photos and videos online. Police registered a case and began searching for

the accused. On Tuesday morning, the accused, Imran, was involved in an

encounter with Talgram police near the cold storage facility in Tahpur village.

During the exchange, a police bullet struck the accused's right leg, injuring

him. Police sent the injured accused, under police custody, to Tirwa Medical

College for treatment.
