Guwahati, 27 October (HS): The ‘Niyut Moina’ scheme, launched by Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma in 2024–25, has become a symbol of hope and empowerment for thousands of families across the state, the State BJP said on Sunday.

The party stated that the ambitious initiative has enabled girl students to pursue higher education and turn their dreams into reality, uplifting countless households. Earlier, financial constraints often forced parents to deprive their daughters of quality education, but the scheme has brought a ray of hope into their lives.

In a press statement issued from the BJP State Headquarters, Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan, party spokesperson Pranjal Kalita highlighted that the Chief Minister has taken several landmark steps to empower women in Assam. These include the Arunodoi scheme, the Chief Minister’s Atmanirbhar initiative, the campaign against child marriage, provision of scooters to meritorious girl students, and reservation for women in government jobs.

Kalita further informed that under the ongoing “Niyut Moina 2.0,” launched on October 27, nearly 3.5 lakh girl students have already received cheques, out of a target of 10 lakh beneficiaries. The Chief Minister inaugurated the central distribution ceremony at the Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah Sports Complex in Sarusajai, Guwahati.

In 2024–25, the BJP-led state government released ₹133 crore benefiting around 1.6 lakh girl students pursuing higher education. Kalita also stated that by taking a firm stand against child marriage, Chief Minister Sarma has ensured safety and a better future for lakhs of girls in Assam.

The BJP asserted that through ‘Niyut Moina,’ the state government has transformed daughters into “pillars of confidence and hope” for their families and society.---------
