Massive bureaucratic reshuffle in Bengal ahead of assembly polls


Kolkata, 27 October (H.S.): The West Bengal government on Monday carried out a major reshuffle in the state administration. According to an official release from Nabanna, several IAS and WBCS officers have been transferred simultaneously.

Preparations for the assembly elections are underway in the state, and the SIR process has already begun. This major reshuffle is considered significant from both political and administrative perspectives. Experts said this change was inevitable before the elections.

North 24 Parganas District Magistrate Sharad Kumar Dwivedi has been transferred to the post of Secretary of the Health and Family Welfare Department. Meanwhile, South 24 Parganas District Magistrate Sumit Gupta has been appointed as the Municipal Commissioner of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation.

HIDCO Managing Director Shashank Shetty has been appointed as the District Magistrate of North 24 Parganas. Cooch Behar District Magistrate Arvind Kumar Meena has been appointed as the District Magistrate of South 24 Parganas.

Murshidabad District Magistrate Rajarshi Mitra has been transferred to the position of Managing Director of HIDCO. Purulia District Magistrate Rajat Nanda has been appointed as the Director of the State Tourism Department.

Darjeeling District Magistrate Preeti Goyal will now be the District Magistrate of Malda, while Malda District Magistrate Nitin Singhania has been transferred as the District Magistrate of Murshidabad.

Haldia Development Authority Chief Executive Officer Sheikh Khontam Sudir has been appointed as the District Magistrate of Purulia. Kolkata Municipal Corporation Commissioner Bhaval Jain has been appointed as the District Magistrate of Birbhum.

Health and Family Welfare Department Secretary U. Rishin Ismail has been transferred as the District Magistrate of East Midnapore, while Commerce and Industry Department Special Secretary Raju Mishra has been appointed as the District Magistrate of Cooch Behar.

Basirhat Additional District Magistrate Akanksha Bhaskar has been appointed as the District Magistrate of Jhargram. Similarly, Manish Mishra, Additional District Magistrate of North 24 Parganas, will now be the District Magistrate of Darjeeling.

Bidhan Chandra, District Magistrate of Birbhum, has been appointed as Special Secretary of the Food and Supplies Department. Sunil Agarwal, District Magistrate of Jhargram, has been transferred to the post of Special Secretary of the North 24 Parganas Development Department.

Purnendu Kumar Maji, District Magistrate of East Midnapore, has been transferred as Special Secretary of the Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Department.

The list includes the transfers of 22 Additional District Magistrates and Officers of Special Duty (OSDs). These include the districts of East Burdwan, South 24 Parganas, Purulia, West Midnapore, North Dinajpur, Cooch Behar, Birbhum, Malda, Jalpaiguri, Bankura, and Howrah.

In addition, 15 sub-divisional magistrates have also been transferred. These include the SDOs of Siliguri, Basirhat, Kalna, Mathabhanga, Mal, Rampurhat, Jangipur, Kharagpur, Egra, Chandannagar, Kandi, Kurseong, Islampur, Katoya and Ranaghat.
