Lucknow, 27

Oct (HS): State Minister for Backward Classes Welfare and Disability

Empowerment (Independent Charge) Narendra Kashyap stated that under the

leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Uttar Pradesh government is

continuously working towards ensuring a dignified life and equal opportunities

for the disabled. In this regard, under the second phase of the Sugamya Bharat

Abhiyan, a roadmap has been prepared to make five major government buildings in

the capital, Lucknow, disabled-friendly. More than Rs. 12 crore has been

approved for this. This initiative will not only ensure accessibility for the disabled

in government buildings but is also crucial in making offices accessible to all

citizens.

Minister

Narendra Kashyap stated that the central and state governments are working

together to make public spaces fully accessible to persons with disabilities.

The selected buildings in Lucknow include the Yojana Bhawan (Havelock Road),

the Irrigation Bhawan (Canal Colony, Cantt Road), the District Employment

Office (Lalbagh), the Development Research, Evaluation and Training Division

(Kalakankar House, Old Hyderabad), and the SUDA Navchetna Kendra (10 Ashok

Marg).

He stated

that these buildings will be equipped with facilities such as ramps, elevators,

Braille signage, wheelchair-friendly sanitary units, and dedicated parking.

Extensive use of Braille for the visually impaired, sign language support, and

a special alarm system for the hearing impaired will be provided. Work will be

carried out in accordance with access audit reports, including elevators sized

to accommodate two people, including wheelchair users, to ensure comfortable

access for those with disabilities.
