New Delhi, 27 October (H.S.): President Droupadi Murmu on Monday urged the next generation of police leaders to blend technological prowess with unwavering moral integrity, stressing that effective and ethical policing is fundamental to India's economic ambitions. She was addressing probationary officers of the Indian Police Service's 77th Regular Recruit batch (2024) who called on her at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

In her address, the President highlighted that as the world's fastest-growing major economy, India requires significant public and private investment to sustain its momentum. She emphasized that law and order is an essential precondition for attracting such investment, making effective policing as crucial as economic incentives.

The President expressed her confidence that a future-ready police force, led by these young officers, would play a pivotal role in realizing the vision of a developed India, or Viksit Bharat.President Murmu reminded the officers that their positions of authority come with immense accountability.

Your actions and conduct will always be under public scrutiny, she stated, advising them to choose the moral path over the convenient one. She asserted that while laws provide formal power, true authority stems from personal and professional integrity, which earns the respect and trust of the public.

The President also touched upon the human aspect of policing, cautioning that constant exposure to crime can have a desensitizing effect. She urged the officers to make a conscious effort to preserve their compassion, which she described as their humane core, even as they strive to be effective law enforcers.

Looking toward the future, President Murmu underscored the transformative impact of technology on policing. Citing the rise of digital arrests and cybercrime as one of the most alarming modern threats, she noted India's rapidly expanding AI user base will further influence law enforcement.

She concluded by stressing that IPS officers must remain several steps ahead of those who would misuse new technologies, including AI, for malicious purposes.
