Guwahati, 27 October (HS): The Election Commission of India (ECI) is preparing to announce the schedule for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls across several states. Reacting to this development, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday said that the state government would “welcome” the move if it is implemented nationwide.

Speaking to the media after attending an event, Dr. Sarma expressed his support for the ECI’s initiative and said, “We are aware that the Election Commission is going to address the media. If the SIR is announced for the entire country, we will welcome it.”

It is expected that the ECI will formally announce the SIR exercise for multiple states through a media briefing in New Delhi on Monday.-------------
