Chennai, 27 October (H.S.) : PMK President Anbumani Ramadoss has raised a serious allegation that approximately 36,000 bags of paddy brought to the Kumbakonam Railway Station have started to germinate after being exposed to continuous rain for over ten days.
The paddy, which was procured by the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation (TNCSC) from farmers in the Kumbakonam region, was intended for transport to rice mills in other districts.
In an official statement, Anbumani noted that the bags were transported to the railway station on October 16 and should have been dispatched immediately.
However, even after 11 days, the paddy bags allegedly remain exposed in lorries on the railway station premises. He stated that the persistent rainfall during this period has caused the paddy to become completely wet, leading to the germination of the grain.
The PMK president alleged that authorities have failed to take any action to transport the bags despite the clear deterioration. He warned that if the delay continues, the paddy will soon become unfit for milling, resulting in a significant financial loss.
Anbumani demanded accountability from the DMK government, questioning why it did not ensure the availability of adequate railway wagons or safely store the produce in godowns before the procurement.
He further criticized the government for causing wastage and incurring extra costs, such as wagon rent, due to the prolonged delay.
