Chennai, 27 October (H.S.) : Actor and political leader Vijay met with the families of the victims of the recent Karur stampede at a resort in Mahabalipuram, near Chennai, on Monday. This meeting comes nearly a month after the tragic incident that occurred during a gathering of his political outfit, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), on September 27. The stampede resulted in the death of 41 individuals and left over 60 people injured.
According to sources within the TVK, a total of 37 bereaved families were transported from Karur, located about 400 km away, to the resort where the party had booked approximately 50 rooms. The meeting was organized by TVK to enable the leader to personally convey his condolences to the affected families. Vijay reportedly met with the families individually throughout the day, with lunch also arranged for the attendees.
During the interaction, the actor-politician assured the families of significant support. TVK sources indicated that Vijay pledged to provide monetary assistance, in addition to supporting the educational needs of the victims' children. The families, who were brought in five buses, were scheduled to be taken back to Karur later in the same day following the meeting.
