Chennai, 26 October (H.S.) : AIADMK General Secretary and Leader of the Opposition Edappadi K Palaniswami launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister M K Stalin on Saturday, accusing him of prioritizing cinema over governance and neglecting the distress of farmers affected by the recent monsoon rains. Palaniswami strongly asserted that the Chief Minister was acting like a full-time film critic instead of addressing the immediate hardships faced by the people of Tamil Nadu.
The opposition leader conveyed his deep anguish on X, sharing the indescribable pain he felt upon seeing paddy shoots that had sprouted prematurely due to the heavy downpour. Palaniswami drew a sharp contrast between the Chief Minister's duties and his public engagements, remarking that Stalin's hands, which should be holding the paddy of farmers and offering assistance, were instead seen holding those of film crew members. While acknowledging that watching films is not wrong, he stressed that Stalin appeared to have completely forgotten his constitutional role as the state's head.
Palaniswami substantiated his criticism by referencing the Chief Minister's engagement with the film industry, mentioning his social media comments on movies ranging from Jai Bhim to Coolie and the recent Bison. He alleged that the Chief Minister was indifferent to public suffering, noting that Stalin had traveled for alliance talks during the southern Tamil Nadu floods and was watching films during sanitation workers' protests and the current period of crop damage. The AIADMK leader also highlighted the severity of the situation, pointing out that 31 lives have already been lost in the ongoing monsoon and questioning the government's lack of preventive measures.
Concluding his statement with a warning, Palaniswami stated that the people would not tolerate the regime's insensitivity toward the poor and farmers. He strongly cautioned, The day is not far when the people of Tamil Nadu will show the power of democracy to this dynastic regime that fails to feel the tears of farmers and the poor.
