NEW YORK, 21 October (H.S.):
The United States Soccer Federation announced on Monday that it has expanded its bid to host the 2031 FIFA Women's World Cup, officially joining forces with Mexico, Costa Rica, and Jamaica.
The four-nation proposal aims to stage the first-ever 48-team Women's World Cup, promising the biggest and most impactful tournament in the history of the sport. The joint bid is currently the only one submitted for the 2031 tournament and has the full backing of Concacaf, the governing body for football in North America, Central America, and the Caribbean.
In a statement, US Soccer President Cindy Parlow Cone said the collaboration presents an extraordinary opportunity to grow the women's game and inspire a new generation of fans across the region. This move follows FIFA President Gianni Infantino's confirmation in April that the U.S. had submitted a bid, with the potential inclusion of other Concacaf members.
The formal announcement solidifies the partnership, which aims to build on the momentum of the men's World Cup being co-hosted by the U.S., Mexico, and Canada in 2026.The hosts for the 2031 and 2035 tournaments are set to be officially confirmed at the FIFA Congress in Vancouver in April of next year. Brazil has already been selected to host the 2027 Women's World Cup.
