Security Breach at Puri Srimandir: Servitor Detained for Taking Photos Inside Temple Premises

Bhubaneswar, 21 October (H.S.): In a fresh instance of security lapse at the Shree Jagannath Temple, a servitor was reportedly caught taking photographs of devotees inside the shrine using a mobile phone — a clear violation of the strict ban on electronic devices within the temple premises.

According to sources, temple authorities noticed the violation and promptly reported the matter. The servitor was subsequently detained by police for questioning. His identity, however, has not yet been disclosed.

This incident comes close on the heels of a recent sub-committee directive that reiterated the complete prohibition of mobile phones inside the temple for all individuals, including servitors and security personnel. The committee had advised the use of walkie-talkies for internal communication instead.

The decision followed a comprehensive security review aimed at ensuring the sanctity of the centuries-old shrine and safeguarding the millions of devotees who visit Puri’s Srimandir every year.
