Jammu, 21 October (H.S.): NYC workers here today demanded regularisation of their services and claimed that they are working on a meagre salary.

Talking to reporters, NYC president, Asif Ali Bhat claimed that they met LG Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah and Sports Minister, Satish Sharma but only got assurances.

“The new Commissioner Secretary and the Director concerned are moving our files but the Finance Department is not getting the required files it needed for the purpose for the last 2-3 years,” he maintained appealing to all the MLAs to raise their issue in the upcoming session of the Legislative Assembly.

Another worker informed that there are about 5000 NYC workers in entire J&K.

“We are working in 14 Government departments on a meagre salary of Rs. 2500,” he further said adding: “We were properly selected in a transparent way for the job.”

Still another NYC worker demanded framing of a proper regularisation policy for NYC workers as for the last 15 years they are working but the Government has so far not defined if they are labourers or something else.
