Kanpur, 21 Oct (HS): A 25-year-old man was shot dead amid the
sounds of firecrackers and gunfire on Tuesday morning in the Gajner police station
area of Kanpur Dehat district in Uttar Pradesh. Police arrived on the scene
and sent the body for post-mortem.
Gaurav Awasthi (25), a resident of Sherpur Taraunda village in
Gajner police station area, left his house late at night after performing
Diwali puja. As it was Diwali festival, his family members did not object to
his leaving late at night. When Gaurav did not return home even after midnight,
a search was started for him. Around 6 am on Tuesday, villagers found Gaurav's
body drenched in blood on the road outside the village. The villagers informed
the family members and the police. Gradually, a crowd of people started
gathering at the spot. The forensic team that reached the spot recovered two
empty cartridges from the spot. The unknown murderers fled after committing the
crime.
Akbarpur Circle Officer Sanjay Verma said that three teams have
been deployed to investigate the incident. The situation at the scene is
normal. There has been no disruption of any kind. The body has been sent for post-mortem.
