Delhi, 21 October (H.S.): While Indian stock markets are closed today, Tuesday, for the Diwali festival, a special one-hour symbolic Muhurat trading session will be held from 1:45 PM to 2:45 PM. A pre-open session is also scheduled from 1:30 PM to 1:45 PM to allow traders to prepare. This year's session is being held in the afternoon, a departure from the usual evening schedule.

The timing is attributed to the astrological window of Kartik Amavasya, which began yesterday evening and concludes at 5:54 PM today. A similar afternoon session occurred in 2012 due to a comparable extension of the auspicious period.

The Muhurat trading session is considered significant by the investment community, with many viewing its performance as an indicator for the financial year ahead. Historically, the markets have performed well during this special session. Over the last ten years, from 2015 to 2024, the benchmark indices have closed in positive territory eight times.

The only exceptions were in 2016 and 2017.During last year's Muhurat trading in 2024, the BSE Sensex gained 335.06 points to close at 79,724.12, while the NSE Nifty rose by 99 points to finish at 24,304.35.
