Guwahati, October 21 (H.S.): Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday announced that eight Bangladeshi nationals, who allegedly entered India illegally, have been deported. The move is part of the state government’s intensified drive against unauthorised border crossings.
In a social media post on X (formerly Twitter), the Chief Minister wrote, “There are 7 wonders of the world and the 8th wonder is illegal infiltrators trying to sneak into Assam and capture our lands. However, the good news is that we won't let these wonders wander around here in Assam anymore. 8 Alices in the Wonderland PUSHED BACK.”
The deportation follows a similar action on October 20, when 18 Bangladeshi nationals were apprehended and sent back. At that time, Sarma compared the action to cricket, saying, “Just like Kohli's iconic Straight Drive, we are also executing PUSHBACKS straight back to the territory of illegal infiltrators.” He added, “Diwali is really the time when the good defeats the evil.”
Assam shares a 263-kilometre porous border with Bangladesh, making border security a continuous administrative challenge and a sensitive political issue in the region.---------
