Jerusalem, 20 October (H.S.): A farewell ceremony was held in Israel on Sunday to pay final honors to Bipin Joshi, the Nepali student who was abducted on October 7, 2023, and later killed while in Hamas captivity.
His body is now being repatriated to Nepal for the last rites.The solemn ceremony took place at Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv, where Israeli officials, Nepali diplomats, and community members paid their respects.
In a social media post, the Israeli Embassy in Nepal stated, A ceremony was held, today, at Ben Gurion Airport, in Israel to honour Bipin Joshi, who was abducted and later murdered in Hamas captivity, before he is sent back home to Nepal. May his memory be a blessing.
Joshi was an agricultural student participating in a learn and earn program in Israel when he was taken hostage from Kibbutz Alumim during the Hamas-led attacks.
Ten other Nepalese students were killed in the same attack. For over two years, Joshi was believed to be alive, but his death was confirmed last week when Hamas returned his body as part of a ceasefire agreement.He is being remembered as a hero for his actions on October 7, when he threw a live grenade out of a bomb shelter, saving the lives of others before being wounded and captured.
Joshi's remains are expected to arrive in Kathmandu on Monday afternoon.
