Ahmedabad, 2 October (H.S.): India started strong in the first session of the 1st Test against West Indies at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, on Thursday. After West Indies won the toss and elected to bat, India pacer Mohammed Siraj spearheaded the bowling attack with three early wickets, reaching 30 Test wickets in 2025, the most among World Test Championship nations this year. Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav also contributed with key wickets, as West Indies were reduced to 90/5 by lunch.
The hosts applied consistent pressure with tight bowling and field placements, forcing the Windies batsmen to struggle for scoring opportunities. Kuldeep Yadav, making his Test comeback after a stellar Asia Cup 2025, scalped the crucial wicket of Shai Hope with a flighted delivery that confused the batsman.
India’s captain Shubman Gill also made a notable impact with a successful DRS call that helped Jasprit Bumrah dismiss Roston Chase. Despite a fragile batting lineup, West Indies showed some resistance through Roston Chase, who remained at the crease at lunch.
India’s bowling dominance in the opening day sets a strong tone for the series, with the hosts looking to capitalize on the early breakthroughs in familiar home conditions. The match continues with India aiming to extend their advantage and challenge the West Indies batting further.
