New Delhi, Oct 2 (HS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi will celebrate Dussehra on the eastern banks of the Yamuna this year, marking his first participation in a Ramlila event in East Delhi. He is scheduled to join the festivities hosted by the Shri Ramlila Committee, Indraprastha, at IP Extension, where a towering 72-foot effigy of Ravan will be set ablaze. In a unique addition to the tradition, four effigies will be burnt.

Along with the customary figures of Ravan, Kumbhkaran, and Meghnad, a fourth effigy—depicting the terrorists of Pahalgam—will also be consigned to flames.

Organizers said the symbolic gesture underscores India’s firm resolve against terrorism and is intended to convey a message to young people that demonic forces can only be defeated through determined resistance.

The event is expected to draw several film celebrities, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, and Union Minister of State Harsh Malhotra. Given the Prime Minister’s presence, elaborate security arrangements have been put in place across the area.
