New Delhi, October 2(HS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday extended his greetings to the nation on the auspicious occasion of Vijaya Dashami, also known as Dussehra, underscoring its timeless message of the victory of truth and righteousness over evil and falsehood.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Prime Minister conveyed:

“Vijaya Dashami celebrates the triumph of good and righteousness over evil and falsehood. May courage, wisdom and devotion always guide our paths. Wishing my fellow Indians a happy Vijaya Dashami.”

Vijaya Dashami, celebrated on the tenth day of the Hindu month of Ashwin, marks the culmination of the Navratri festival. It holds great spiritual and cultural significance across India, symbolizing the triumph of Lord Rama over the demon king Ravana in the epic Ramayana, as well as the victory of Goddess Durga over the buffalo demon Mahishasura. The festival embodies the eternal belief in dharma (righteousness) prevailing over adharma (unrighteousness).

The day is observed with grand festivities across the country, including the staging of Ramlila plays depicting episodes from the Ramayana, culminating in the burning of effigies of Ravana, Meghnath, and Kumbhkaran as symbols of the defeat of evil. In eastern India, particularly West Bengal, the day coincides with Durga Visarjan, where majestic idols of Goddess Durga are immersed in rivers, signifying her return to the celestial abode after slaying Mahishasura.

Prime Minister Modi’s message highlighted the values embedded in the festival — courage, wisdom, devotion, and the resolve to walk the path of truth. His greetings come as millions of people across the nation participate in rituals, processions, and cultural programs that combine devotion with celebration.

Vijaya Dashami is not only a religious observance but also a cultural celebration of unity and moral conviction, reminding people that faith and resilience can overcome adversity. The Prime Minister’s call resonated with the festive spirit, reaffirming India’s collective ethos of righteousness and devotion.
