Chennai, 19 October (H.S.) : The Tamil Nadu unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has sharply countered Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s attack on the BJP-led Central government, particularly addressing his criticism regarding the use of Hindi and Sanskrit names for major national schemes and laws. The CM had questioned the arrogance behind this practice.
Narayanan Thirupathy, chief spokesperson of the Tamil Nadu BJP, took to social media to assert that Hindi is the nation's official language, stating, If you are asking this question without knowing that the nation's official language is Hindi, then it's your ignorance. Knowingly if you ask, then it's your arrogance.
The exchange extended beyond the language issue, covering several other political flashpoints raised by the Chief Minister. When Stalin questioned how individuals branded as corrupt suddenly become clean after joining the BJP alliance, Thirupathy retorted by pointing to former DMK minister V. Senthil Balaji, who is currently in the DMK and allegedly involved in the cash-for-jobs scam.
The CM must actually ask himself this question, the BJP spokesperson said. Thirupathy also slammed the DMK's opposition to the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, alleging that the DMK's opposition stemmed from the fact that the SIR would stop & eradicate all the misdeeds & malpractices adopted by DMK, such as vote theft and booth capturing.
Responding to Stalin's comment about the use of Governors to create confusion in opposition-ruled states, Thirupathy countered, What were you trying to achieve by seeing the Governor often when you were in opposition? Why should we not achieve what you wanted to achieve? The BJP leader also addressed the CM’s question on why the archaeological findings from Keeladi, which establish the antiquity of iron in Tamil culture, were not being recognized.
Thirupathy dismissed this as the CM's ignorance, clarifying that the first two phases of the Keeladi report were approved by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), and accused the DMK of trying to politicize the issue in the name of the 'Dravida model.
