The police have uncovered a major conspiracy involving counterfeit currency. On Saturday night, the police arrested a father and his son with counterfeit currency from an old Kolkata Port Trust residence near Howrah Bridge. Counterfeit currency worth ₹9,000 was recovered from the arrested accused.

According to police sources, the arrested accused have been identified as Suman Mandal (40) and his son Babu Mandal (24). Both are residents of the Baduria area of Basirhat in North 24 Parganas district.

Interrogation revealed that the accused worked as carriers for a larger counterfeiting gang. Their job was to deliver the counterfeit currency to other agents. Police suspect that this gang imports counterfeit currency from border areas and distributes it across the state.

According to sources, acting on a tip-off, police raided the premises and caught the two red-handed. On Sunday, both accused were produced in a Howrah court, where the court ordered them to be remanded in police custody for eight days.

The police are now trying to determine where the counterfeit notes were printed and who else is involved in the racket. The investigation is ongoing.
