Two dead, three injured as tourist car plunges into deep gorge in Darjeeling


Darjeeling, 18 October (H.S.): A car carrying tourists fell into a deep ravine in Teenghumti area of Pankhabari in Darjeeling on Saturday. The tourists died on the spot, while three others were seriously injured. The deceased have been identified as Rajesh Paswan and Sumit Singh.

As per information, the five friends, residents of Naxalbari area of Siliguri, had travelled to Karshiang in Darjeeling on Friday for a holiday. They were returning home on Saturday morning. Around 8 a.m., the car suddenly lost control at Teenghumti turn in Pankhabari and plunged into a deep ravine.

Locals immediately rushed to the scene and informed the police. With the help of the police and locals, the injured were pulled from the ravine and taken to the hospital. On arrival at the hospital, doctors declared two tourists dead. The condition of the other three is said to be critical.

The police have initiated an investigation into the incident. According to preliminary information, the driver lost control of the vehicle at a hill turn, due to which the accident occurred.
