West Medinipur, 18 October (H.S.): Two female Trinamool Congress workers were killed in a road accident that occured in Samsara area of Mohanpur block in West Medinipur district on Friday night when the women were returning from the party's Vijaya Sammelan.
The deceased have been identified as Phoolmani Singh and Sombari Singh, both residents of Samsara area. According to police sources, the Vijaya Sammelan was organized by the Mohanpur Block Trinamool Congress on Friday evening. At around 8 p.m., the two women were returning home on a motorcycle with a relative when a tractor hit their bike from behind on a rural road in Samsara area.
Following the collision, all three fell onto the road, and the tractor's wheel ran over Phoolmani and Sombari. Both were rushed to Bagda Rural Hospital in Mohanpur in critical condition, where doctors declared Phoolmani dead. As her condition worsened, Sombari was rushed to Midnapore Medical College Hospital, but she died on the way.
On information,, Mohanpur Block Trinamool Congress President Manik Maiti rushed to the hospital. He said, This is a very heartbreaking incident. We are at a loss for words. We will provide all possible support to the families of the deceased workers.
The police have seized the tractor, although the driver is absconding.
