Silchar (Assam), 18 October (HS): Assam University has decided to install a statue of legendary Assamese singer Zubeen Garg on its campus. The university will also name a newly constructed 500-seat auditorium after him.
The decision was taken during the 176th Executive Council meeting of the university, held under the chairmanship of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Rajeev Mohan Pant. The council stated that the move is a mark of respect for the sentiments and emotions of the people of Assam.
Prof. Pant informed that the auditorium, being built with financial assistance from the state government, will be dedicated in the name of Zubeen Garg. A statue of the late artist will also be installed in front of the auditorium.
Registrar Dr. Pradose Kiran Nath added that the newly constructed conference hall at the university’s Diphu campus will also be named after Zubeen Garg.
It may be mentioned that Zubeen Garg spent his childhood and school years in Shreebhumi town of the Barak Valley.--------
