Mumbai, 18 Oct (HS): Eight travellers
died as the vehicle in which they were travelling turned turtle in
Chandrashaili ghat inNandurbar district of Maharashtra. Twenty others were injured
in the accident. The travellers were going for the annual Astamb Yatra. The
injured have been rushed to a hospital in Taloda.The number of deaths may
increase, as some of the injured are critical.
Ashtam Mountain in Nandurbar is related
to Ashwatthama, a character in Mahabharat, who was cursed by Lord Krishna to
remain alive and suffer the pain for using unlawful methods during the
Kurukshetra War of Mahabharat, and is believed to be seen on the mountain.
Thousands of devotees from Maharashtra, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh visit the
place on the ‘Dhanteras’ day of Diwali festival. It is at the height of about
4.300 feet.
The ill-fated vehicle was carrying 40
passengers on Saturday morning. Some of them were crushed to death under the
vehicle.
