West Burdwan, 18 October (H.S.): The decomposed body of a woman was found on the banks of a canal in the Shaudiya area under the Jaipur police station in West Burdwan district on Saturday morning. The deceased woman has been identified as Jyotsna Begum (56), a resident of Dakshin Bhatora Gram Panchayat.
According to police sources, Jyotsna Begum left home around 10 a.m. on Friday. She told her family she was going to deposit money at a local bank. However, when she did not return home by evening, her family searched for her extensively and finally filed a missing complaint at Jaipur police station that night.
Locals spotted a decomposed body on the banks of a canal on Saturday morning and immediately alerted the police. The police arrived at the scene, recovered the body, and sent it for a postmortem.
Family members arrived at the scene and identified the body as Jyotsna Begum. Family members said the woman had some outstanding loans and had likely gone to the bank to deposit or withdraw money.
The police told that a case of unnatural death has been registered and an investigation has been initiated. However, due to the body's decomposing condition, no external injuries could be detected. The police stated that the cause of death will be clear only after the postmortem report is received.
According to investigating officials, they are investigating which bank Jyotsna Begum visited and whether any transactions were made in her account that day.
