Hathras,

18 Oct (HS): Two youths detained after an alleged false encounter in Hathras in

connection with a robbery attempt earlier this week were freed from jail on

Saturday due to flaws discovered during the investigation, officials said. According to police, two cops, including the

SHO, have been suspended for carelessness in the matter, and a magisterial

probe is being carried out by Sadar SDM Rajbahadur Singh and Circle Officer

(City) Yogendra Krishna Narayan. On

October 9, officials reported a robbery attempt at a trader's residence in the

Mursan police station area. Following a

complaint, police claimed to have apprehended two men following a brief

altercation in which one was shot in the leg.

According to police, the two suspects are Omveer alias Sonu and Deva

alias Suryadev Singh, both of whom live in Barakala village in Aligarh's Iglas

area.

However,

the families of both accused claimed that the encounter was staged and urged a

fair inquiry and harsh punishment for those guilty. Families later met with the

District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police (SP) to pursue their demand. According

to authorities, SP Chiranjeev Nath Sinha removed the then-SHO, Mamta Singh, and

Inspector Mukesh Kumar, who was in head of the Anti-Theft Team, and turned over

the inquiry to the SDM and Circle Officer. Police had previously alleged that

two country-made pistols, ammunition, and a motorbike had been discovered from

the arrested people. However, police indicated that after a thorough

investigation, they discovered no substantive evidence against the two. The final report on the case was given to the

court, and they were released from jail on Friday.

According

to the CO City, the youths were freed due to flaws discovered throughout the

investigation. The SP stated that no tangible evidence was uncovered against

the youngsters in the complaints made by both the trader and the police; as a

result, a final report was filed, and the accused were freed.
