Durgapur, 18 October (H.S.): The second-year student of a private medical college in Durgapur of West Burdwan district, who was allegedly raped in a forest area outside the college campus last week, was discharged from the hospital on Friday.
According to sources, the victim will have to remain in Durgapur until the investigation is complete. It is not yet decided whether she will stay in the college hostel or in a rented accommodation.
The victim's father said on Thursday that he would soon return to Odisha with his daughter and would never return to West Bengal. He also stated that he had requested Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi to arrange for her admission to a medical college in the state, to which the Chief Minister has assured cooperation.
Meanwhile, on Friday, a team of forensic experts again reached the forest area where the incident occurred on the night of October 10. Police sources stated that a detailed investigation is underway to confirm whether the case involved rape.
So far, six people have been arrested in this case, including a classmate of the victim. The police said that many contradictions were found in the statement of the student's male friend.
