Chennai, 17 October (H.S.) : A road accident in Thanjavur district claimed the lives of an elderly couple from Pollachi who were travelling to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary. The tragic incident occurred on Friday near Narasinganpettai when the car in which they were travelling was involved in a head-on collision with an oncoming lorry.

The deceased were identified as 60-year-old Subramanian and his wife, 59-year-old Kalavathi. They were on their way to Thiruvidaimaruthur to mark their significant milestone when the devastating accident took place. The impact of the collision was reported to be so severe that both Subramanian and Kalavathi died on the spot.

The accident resulted in serious injuries to three other individuals who were inside the car, including the driver. All injured persons were immediately transported to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. The Thiruvidaimaruthur police have registered a case regarding the fatal crash and have initiated an investigation to determine the exact circumstances that led to the collision.
