Guwahati, 17 October (HS): Pragjyotishpur University marked its fourth Foundation Day on Friday with a grand and solemn ceremony held at the university campus in Chandrapur, Hajongbari. The event was attended by vice-chancellors, academicians, and senior officials from various higher educational institutions across India.

Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the Samutkarsha Bhawan (Auditorium) and Dhanwantari Bhawan (Pharmacy Department) of the university. Minister of State for External Affairs, Pabitra Margherita, formally inaugurated the university’s main entrance. Assam’s Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu, Public Health Engineering and Technical Education Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah, Health Minister Ashok Singhal, and North Eastern Council (NEC) Secretary Satindra Kumar Bhalla were also present.

RSS National Executive Member Suresh Soni attended the event as the chief guest. In his address, he said, “Nation-building is possible through individual development and Pragjyotishpur University is progressing in that noble direction.”

Delivering an inspiring speech, Chief Minister Dr. Sarma said, “The university derives its name from Assam’s ancient identity — ‘Pragjyotishpur.’ Education should not merely be about knowledge acquisition but about nurturing the spirit of universal welfare. Alongside modern technological learning, it is vital to integrate spirituality and humanity.”

On this occasion, the Chief Minister also unveiled the university’s newsletter titled Koumudi.

The event was graced by Vice Chancellor Prof. Smriti Kumar Sinha, Chairman of the Haryana State Higher Education Council Prof. Kailash Chandra Sharma, MP from Guwahati Bijuli Kalita Medhi and Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Rana Pratap Kalita, President of the Shankardev Education and Research Foundation (SERF), among other distinguished guests.

Established in 2022, Pragjyotishpur University is guided by the ideals of Vidya Bharati and inspired by the teachings of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva. With an aim to promote higher education rooted in Indian knowledge traditions, values, and patriotism, the university has quickly emerged as a center blending ancient wisdom with modern learning.
