New Delhi, October 17 (HS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdelatty on Friday, where he conveyed his warm congratulations to President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi for Egypt's pivotal role in brokering the recent Gaza Peace Agreement. Prime Minister Modi expressed hope that the accord would lead to lasting peace and stability in the region.
The meeting took place as Dr. Abdelatty visited New Delhi to co-chair the inaugural India-Egypt Strategic Dialogue with his Indian counterpart, S. Jaishankar. This high-level dialogue marks a significant step in the relationship, which was elevated to a 'Strategic Partnership' during President Sisi's state visit to India in 2023.
During their discussion, Dr. Abdelatty briefed Prime Minister Modi on the progress of the strategic dialogue, which aims to bolster cooperation across a wide array of sectors.
Prime Minister Modi expressed his satisfaction with the advancements in bilateral ties, particularly in trade, technology, energy, and defense.
Following the meeting, Prime Minister Modi posted on social media 'X': Pleased to meet with Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt. Congratulated President Sisi for his leadership and his country's vital contribution to the Gaza Peace Agreement. We discussed ways to further strengthen our strategic partnership.
The Gaza Peace Agreement, co-hosted by the US and Egypt, was recently concluded at a summit in Sharm El-Sheikh, which India attended. The accord is seen as a critical step toward de-escalating the conflict and creating a framework for a durable two-state solution.
The strategic dialogue between India and Egypt covered political, economic, and security collaboration, as well as counter-terrorism efforts and people-to-people ties, reflecting a shared commitment to regional stability and the empowerment of the Global South.
