Howrah, 17 October (H.S.) — A shocking incident of murder over an alleged extramarital affair has rocked Howrah’s Shibpur area. The victim, identified as Ravi Prasad (40), was killed late Thursday night at a multi-storey apartment in Ganesh Maji Lane, Kasundia. Police arrested the accused within an hour of the crime.
According to police sources, the accused, Vikas Chowdhury, lived in the same apartment complex. His wife was reportedly in a long-term extramarital relationship with Ravi Prasad, which had caused frequent quarrels between the two men — often escalating into heated arguments over the phone.
On Thursday night, the situation spiralled out of control when an enraged Vikas allegedly attacked Ravi Prasad with a knife, killing him on the spot. Upon receiving information, a team from Shibpur Police Station rushed to the scene. Soon after, Howrah Police tracked down and arrested Vikas from a nearby hideout, recovering the murder weapon.
Police are now investigating whether anyone else was involved in the incident. The accused is being interrogated further. The brutal killing has sparked widespread tension and outrage in the locality.
