Silchar (Assam), 17 October (HS): Cachar Police, in a joint operation with Assam Rifles, seized a large quantity of heroin and arrested one drug peddler.

The superintendent of Police Nomal Mahata informed that based on reliable intelligence, a special operation was launched against narcotics trafficking at Ujjan Tarapur under Lakhipur Police Station.

During the operation, a Scorpio vehicle (Reg. No. MZ01J/0444) was intercepted and searched. The police team recovered around 401 grams of suspected heroin concealed inside 30 soap boxes hidden in specially made secret compartments of the vehicle. An iPhone was also seized from the spot.

The accused, identified as Dilwar Hussain alias Lalruate Sanga, a resident of Patharkandi, Sribhumi, was arrested. Preliminary investigation revealed that the contraband was smuggled illegally from Champhai, Mizoram.

The seized heroin is estimated to be worth around ₹3 crore in the black market. A drug detection kit test confirmed the substance to be heroin. Police have formally seized the narcotics and further investigation is underway.--------
