Baska (Assam), 17 October (HS): Police have identified around 19 people involved in the attack on security personnel outside the Baska District Jail, where five accused were being taken in connection with the Zubeen Garg death case as per court orders. Authorities have also released a detailed list of the accused.
According to officials, three of the 19 accused — Ahela Miyan, Ramij Ali and Kadir Ali of Nikasi — have been arrested. However, around 16 others remain absconding. The key accused include Nurul Alam of Madulibari, Mahidul Islam and Mustafa Ahmed of the All Bodo Muslim Students’ Union (ABMSU), the son of Sibjan Ali of Dighaldanga, Shahidul of Dighaldanga, Asik of Madulibari, Hamid Ali of Dangarchuba, Abdul Ali of Dighaldanga, Rupam Ali of Ahopa, Suleman Ali of Dighaldanga, Harikrishna Pathak of Garamdeu, Champak Nath of West Suba, Kulen Deka of Kueri Chowk, Vikas Roy, and Bidu Chetri.
Police have launched an intensive search operation to trace the remaining accused. Meanwhile, local residents of Baska have claimed that outsiders were behind the violence, asserting that the area’s local people were not involved.
Tension continues to prevail in the district following the October 15 incident, in which around 35 people, including police and media personnel, sustained injuries. Several vehicles belonging to police and journalists were torched by the mob. Security has been tightened at multiple levels around the district jail premises.--------
