Murshidabad, 16 October (H.S.): The police of Suti police station in Murshidabad district have taken a youth into police custody for seven days in connection with the rape of a six-year-old girl. The accused allegedly lured the girl behind a bush and raped her during a power outage in the village on Tuesday evening.

The police said on Thursday that the accused was produced in the Jangipur sub-divisional court, where he was remanded to police custody for seven days.

Regarding the incident, Farakka sub-divisional police officer S.K. Shamsuddin said that the accused has been arrested and is currently in police custody. He is being interrogated. The victim has been sent for a medical examination. Efforts are being made to complete the investigation expeditiously.

The police said that preliminary investigations revealed that the arrested youth was addicted to various drugs.

According to police, the girl was admitted to a local hospital after the incident on Tuesday night.

Police sources said the accused had scratches on his face and various parts of his body. Police officers took him to the scene of the crime on Wednesday.
