Kolkata, 16 October (H.S.): Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, has taken a dig at Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, saying he nominates her for the next Nobel Prize in Geography and Botany. Adhikari's statement comes after the Chief Minister suggested planting mangrove trees to prevent flooding in the hilly areas of North Bengal.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee made this suggestion during an administrative review meeting held in Darjeeling on Wednesday. The meeting discussed the recent floods and landslides in the hilly, Terai, and Dooars regions of North Bengal.

Responding to the Chief Minister's suggestion, Suvendu Adhikari wrote on social media on Thursday, I hereby Nominate West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee; a self proclaimed PhD from the fictitious & imaginary 'East Georgia University', for the next Nobel Prize in Geography and Botany for her historic and game-changing idea - Mangroves in the Mountains.'

Adhikari said that mangrove trees are a special type of salt-tolerant plant that grows in saline or semi-saline water in coastal areas. He explained that mangroves, or tidal forests, act as natural shields, protecting coastal areas from storms, cyclones, and waves, and play a crucial role in conserving biodiversity and combating climate change.

Adhikari said, It's like a living defense system for coastal regions. This unique ecosystem protects coastal areas from deadly waves, storms, cyclones, and other marine problems. And this muddy saline wetland is the habitat for numerous insects, fish, reptiles, birds, and other creatures.

He warned that if the Chief Minister's suggestion is implemented, the topography of the hilly areas of North Bengal could be affected. He said, The People of West Bengal are waiting desperately for the tide to turn in West Bengal. Our State is becoming a laughingstock in front of the entire country because of her idiocy...

At an administrative review meeting in Darjeeling on Wednesday, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee once again blamed the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) for the flood situation in the state. She said that the DVC should either regularly dredge the reservoirs or demolish its dams.

The Chief Minister said, You can't mess with nature. Rivers should be allowed to flow in their natural course. So either do proper dredging or remove your dams.
