Jalpaiguri, 16 October (H.S.):

A 50-year-old man was killed in a wild elephant attack in the Khairbari New Market area of Nagrakata on Thursday morning. The deceased has been identified as Bishnath Oraon (50), a resident of the area. The police recovered the man's body from the Khairbari New Market area of Nagrakata and sent it for postmortem.

According to sources, Bishnath had left home on Wednesday night to guard a paddy field. In the morning, a local woman found his body lying in front of a house in the area. Forest officials from Khunia and Diana Ranges rushed to the scene. The police from the Nagrakata police station also arrived later. The police recovered the body and sent it to Jalpaiguri Medical College for postmortem.
