South 24 Parganas, 16 October (H.S.): A man strangled his wife to death due to marital discord and then surrendered at the police station. The incident occurred in Netra South Shevudda Bankimod village, under the Diamond Harbour police station limits. The police have arrested the accused husband.
The deceased woman has been identified as Tajlima Bibi (20). A few years ago, Tajlima, a resident of Hatuganj, married Sabir Molla, a resident of Netra South Shevudda village. The couple has a four-year-old daughter. Sabir is a tailor by profession and worked as a tailor at home.
According to neighbors, the husband and wife had been having a long-standing dispute. Tajlima had gone to her parents' home when the quarrel escalated, but her husband later brought her back. He is accused of torturing her even after returning.
On Wednesday, Sabir brought his daughter home from school and left her at her in-laws' house. That same night, the couple quarreled again. It is alleged that in a fit of rage, Sabir first beat his wife and then strangled her to death.
On Thursday, the police said that after the murder, Sabir surrendered at the police station, telling police that he had killed his wife and left her body at home. He also handed over the house keys to officers.
Following this, a police team reached his home. Upon unlocking the gate, Tajlima's body was discovered. Numerous injuries were found on her body. The police have sent the body for postmortem and have initiated an investigation into the matter.
According to preliminary police estimates, Sabir beat his wife and then strangled her to death. The police are currently interrogating the accused.
