Guwahati, 16 October (HS): In a major boost to medical education in Assam, the Government of India has approved an additional 50 MBBS seats for Pragjyotishpur Medical College, Guwahati, raising its total intake to 100 seats for the academic year 2025–26.

With this expansion, the total number of MBBS seats across Assam has now risen to 1,825, further strengthening the state’s capacity in producing skilled medical professionals.

Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said the move marks another milestone in Assam’s continuous efforts to make the state a leading centre for quality medical education and healthcare. He also expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Government of India for this approval.
